AITRICS (CEO Kwang joon Kim), a company specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) technology announced on the 15th that it successfully held a luncheon symposium at the "26th International Conference of the Korea Society of Acute Care Surgery 2024," which took place at the Grand Hyatt Incheon from April 11 to 13.
This symposium, attended by over 450 domestic and international critical care and trauma surgeons, served as a platform to share various knowledge and research related to the management of critically ill and trauma patients, as well as to review the latest treatment trends.
Titled "Clinical Application of Artificial Intelligence in Acute Care," the symposium was chaired by Professor Lee Jae-myung from Korea University Anam Hospital, with Professor Baek Seung-min from Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital serving as the speaker.
In his presentation, Professor Baek emphasized the challenges in managing critically ill patients and the importance of Early Warning Systems. He discussed various research and methods utilizing AI, particularly highlighting the real-world applications and clinical value of the patient deterioration prediction AI solution, AITRICS-VC (VitalCare).
Professor Baek stated, "Early detection and treatment of reversible conditions is fundamental to medicine. Therefore, AI-based medical data analysis and research have become significant fields. Particularly, VitalCare enhances predictive accuracy by utilizing real-time patient data, including vital signs and biochemical and hematological indicators, thereby providing healthcare professionals with greater explanatory power and practical assistance."
Chairing the session, Professor Lee Jae-myung remarked, "With a vast amount of medical data generated and a shortage of clinical resources capable of interpreting that data in real time, the use of AI that demonstrates excellent performance is indispensable. VitalCare can accurately predict critical moments when clinical decision-making is required, helping many healthcare providers and patients, which is highly meaningful."
Kwang-joon Kim, CEO of AITRICS, expressed, "We are pleased to share the clinical value of VitalCare at KSACS, a leading international conference in the field of critical care medicine. AITRICS will continue to collaborate with various academic institutions to share the clinical significance of VitalCare, contributing to addressing unmet needs in the domestic healthcare landscape."
Meanwhile, VitalCare analyzes a total of 19 data points, including six vital signs, 11 blood test results, consciousness level, and age, to predict the risk of events such as sepsis, cardiac arrest, and mortality at an early stage. Since March 2023, VitalCare has been used as a non-reimbursable service following a deferment in the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s new medical technology assessment and has been implemented in over 40 hospitals in South Korea, including Korea University Anam and Guro Hospitals, and Ewha Womans University Mokdong and Seoul Hospitals.
